THE WILLOW TREE STORY

When I decided to establish my business, the most difficult part was naming the company. I knew many people choose something of significance in their life. So, I started with the name of the street where I grew up: Willow.

From there, I researched the cultural and spiritual meaning of willow trees. The colors of the trees depict special meaning and rich symbolism. The trunk of the tree is brown, which symbolizes stability, support, strength and structure. Brown depicts a sense of responsibility, and duty or security. The green of the leaves on the branches represent balance, growth, learning and harmony. (Look closely, the leaves are people in our logo!)

Finally, in scripture, the willow is always associated with a brook or river, representing renewal or a perpetual source of nourishment. The name represents who I am and what I want my business to be for my clients.

PHILOSOPHY

Kimberly firmly believes in achieving and maintaining the highest level of ethical standards for businesses, both large and small. Fostering a respectful, diverse, safe, and satisfying workplace environment is essential for the growth of both the business and the employee. Human resources is a balance of achieving business objectives with employee development and engagement. The ability to recognize and appreciate the fact that there are two or more perspectives on the same issue goes a long way to achieve a balanced, workable solution when issues arise. Recognizing when something needs improvement and taking steps to make corrections is essential to every positive workplace strategy.

ACCREDITATIONS

Kimberly is dedicated to staying up-to-date on all relevant laws, regulations and trends in the HR industry to better serve her clients. To provide the most comprehensive support possible, she has earned a number of valuable HR certificates and accreditations from well-respected organizations, including:

Professional in Human Resources

To provide critical knowledge of legal best practices, Kimberly attained the status of PHR (or Professional in Human Resources) from the HR Certification Institute. This credential has given her knowledge of the technical and operational aspects of HR management, including U.S. laws and regulations, to guide her clients through routine as well as serious employment matters.

SHRM Certified Professional

Kimberly is proud to have earned a number of SHRM credentials, including the designation of SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), from the Society for Human Resources Management. With this training, Kimberly is equipped to serve clients in a number of HR functions, including the implementation of policies and strategies, operational functions and serving as a point of contact for staff and stakeholders.

Employing Abilities @Work

Kimberly is passionate about making the workplace more accessible for everyone. That’s why she pursued the Employing Abilities @Work Certificate, also provided by SHRM. This training equipped Kimberly with the skills to manage the employment lifecycle of employees with disabilities. In daily practice at Willow Tree Consultants, this training allows her to work with small business owners to build a more inclusive workplace with skilled employees who currently represent an untapped labor pool.

Veterans at Work

Finally, Kimberly believes that veterans are a valuable part of the workforce. That’s why she acquired SHRM’s Veterans at Work certification, a program designed to help HR professionals attract, hire and retain veterans and members of the military community.

Kimberly uses this important training in her work by encouraging small business owners to seek out veterans and their family members with transferable skills using the many resources available to fill vacancies in their organizations.

Getting Talent Back To Work

People with criminal records—especially the formerly incarcerated—face enormous barriers to employment. Talented and eager to work, this untapped pool of workers can bring great value to employers and communities when given the opportunity to thrive and succeed in the workplace. But too often, they are denied the opportunity they need to put their skills to work due to deeply rooted biases and harmful misperceptions.

Kimberly uses information from this training to educate employers on second chance barriers as well as working with them to recognize the benefits of hiring from this untapped applicant pool to fill roles in their organizations.

She is also equipped with SHRM’s Getting Talent Back to Work certificate, which equips HR professionals to attract, hire and retain qualified individuals who have criminal and/or conviction records.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

kidz1stfund

Kidz1stFund

Willow Tree Consultants is proud to be a sponsor of Kidz1stfund, an organization created by Jimbo and Candi Fisher dedicated to providing education and raising awareness about Fanconi anemia—a rare blood disorder that affects thousands of children each year, including their son Ethan.

At the same time Ethan Fisher was diagnosed with Fanconi anemia, Kimberly and Chuck Adcock were also looking for answers for their young child. The Adcocks embarked on a four-year search for a diagnosis and treatment options that included many visits to doctors and specialists, trips to several hospitals, numerous surgeries and enormous frustration. They were well aware of the need for advocacy on behalf of their child.  With the boys being the same age, Jimbo and Candi’s plight resonated immensely with the Adcock family. Over the years, Kimberly and Chuck have been fond supporters of this cause, which raises money to fight Fanconi anemia and further research in the area of blood disorders. Chuck is also a huge driving force behind his employer, FSU Credit Union, getting involved in annual fundraising for Kidz1stFund.

Willow Tree Consultants was the proud sponsor of the #GivingTuesday Coffee Hour Kickstart, matching up to $1,000 of donations made to Kidz1stfund on Tuesday, November 28, 2017.
